Commercial buildings include offices, shopping centers, arenas, schools, hospitals, skyscrapers, and many more. As the name suggest, the buildings are mainly designed to host commercial services. This type of construction involves new designs, renovation, and putting up commercial facilities.
Construction projects are mostly contract-based and developers and contractors have to bid to oversee the project. To get better odds of securing the contract, your bid has to be well detailed and have an accurate plan for the project.
As the populations grow, the demand and need for commercial buildings is always high. Schools are expanding, businesses are multiplying by the day, and there is demand for office buildings. In 2020, the US spent about $49 billion on construction of commercial buildings.
There are three types of commercial construction:
- Small-scale construction – This includes fixing sewage systems, renovation, and remodeling interiors and exteriors of buildings. The construction requires short time for completion, few crew, and equipment.
- Medium-scale construction – This is the building of buildings from the ground up, upgrading, and expanding space. Compared to small-scale construction, projects are more complex such as multi-storied buildings. The process often takes several months to completion depending on the crew size and equipment.
- Large-scale construction – This involves large projects such as building airports, roads, skyscrapers, and government buildings. They receive their funding from government agencies or major commercial development companies. As they deal with “megaprojects”, they use heavy equipment such as cranes, bulldozers, excavators, and large teams to build high skyscrapers and develop vast land tracts.
Commercial construction, like residential construction, are grouped under private construction infrastructure. The differences between these construction types include financial baking, equipment need and size of project.
